Join us for an immersive learning experience titled « Reviving Roots: Reintegrating History and Heritage into the Evolving Contemporary Urban Identity » from 1- at College of Engineering &Technology Coet Alamein Campus.

Participants will explore and study significant sites like Leucaspis Marina and the War Cemeteries, combining heritage preservation with contemporary urban design strategies. Attendees will receive a training certificate from the AASTMT Department of Architecture and the TOURITAGE project coordinator Università degli Studi di Palermo , and training hours contributing to their graduation requirements.

Training of Trainers

Our TOURITAGE project team participated in the « Training of Trainers » from September 3-7, 2024, at Università degli Studi di Palermo Palermo, Italy! 🎓✨ Tutors from beneficiary universities AASTMT Arab Academy For Science, Technology and Maritime TransportNahda University جامعة النهضةUniversité de JendoubaUniversité de Gabès (page officielle)Centre de Calcul El-Khawarizmi were trained on planning, implementing, managing, and assessing an Intensive Study Program focused on managing cultural heritage in tourism through the use of innovative technologies.

Day 1 Highlights (Sept 3rd):

– Professors Rossella Corrao & Calogero Vinci gave an insightful presentation on the IHeritage – ICT Platform MED Heritage , covering task management and technicalities in data gathering and heritage site modeling.

– Participants experienced hands-on demonstrations of VR & AR exhibitions, gaining insight into creating similar setups at partner campuses.

– Participants toured the UNESCO Arab-Norman sites of Palermo city center and other sites including Palatina Chapel, S. John of Eremites church, Palermo Cathedral, Cassaro (Vittorio Emanuele street) and Garibaldi Garden (Marina square), exploring the fusion of Western, Islamic, and Byzantine cultures.

Tourism-led heritage development

TOURITAGE aims to develop the academic sector in order to acquire the suitable skills for innovative Management of Cultural Heritage via Tourism Development. The project delineates the drivers connected to the potentials of cultural heritage in the context of developing a touristic destination, encouraging a socio-economic recovery. From another angle, it also investigates the role of touristic sites in promoting the preservation and revival of heritage assets.
